Our Organization

Freedom Fur is a not for profit animal rescue for domestic pets and wildlife. Our rescue is based in Northern Ontario and thrives from community support and engagement. Donate Now

At Freedom Fur, all our animals are individually assessed upon intake to determine character and deposition. At this time, animals see a vet if any medical attention is required or vaccinations need to update. The rescue is equipped to provide a clean, social setting with independent training sessions for our domestic pets.

Each animal has various levels of training and abilities. Using a variety of training methods; we strive to create a positive in-home experience that is strict but friendly. Upon intake, the animals’ behaviors and habits are evaluated and an individual protocol is made as a “treatment plan” to correct any concerns. Immediately animals will start on house/ litter training if applicable. Our team joins efforts to reinforce protocols; often going back to the basics. Freedom Fur is grateful to have service animals part of the team that assist in creating a pack mentality and family dynamic during training sessions. See Pets

The wildlife at Freedom Fur are not available for adoption. Freedom Fur has been authorized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry as a Wildlife Custodian. As a Wildlife Custodian, we provide short-term care to injured and orphaned animals and, once rehabilitated, return them to their natural environment. For animals requiring permanent care, we provide an environment that satisfies their biological and behavioral needs. For more information visit the Wildlife page.

Tim Kennedy
Tim Kennedy

Founder/ President

Timothy (Tim) Kennedy is the founder of Freedom Fur. It all started after he rescued 5 cosmetic testing mice after stumbling upon a petition when sourcing ingredients for his natural product company; Natural Nation. Little did he know, within only a couple months his one bedroom would turn into a rehabilitation room. After 1 year, Tim has rehabilitated, rescued + released over 250 animals. Tim manages the rescue both in front and behind the scenes. Tim continues to drive his vision and spread love to as many fur friends as possible.

What People Say

I cannot think of better people to call when an animal is in need!

I discovered Freedom Fur online when I was searching to get some cool tunnels and hides for my bunnies. This is when I was introduced and screened to adopt Salt, a little rescue mouse. Since adopting Salt, I have learned that not only are they saving the lives of pets, but they also rescue and rehabilitate wildlife. They are the only people I know to create a free-roam space for an unwell raccoon because it needs long term, or to take a wild bird out for flying lessons until it’s releasable.

I couldn’t be more grateful to have found Freedom Fur!

Freedom Fur was gracious enough to help me with my own home-based rescue. Freedom Fur has helped me bring 6 animals to rescue; saving these 6 lives from euthanasia.

Bean Snoots Rat Rescue
Freedom Fur goes above and beyond!

A few months ago, I was notified about a 2 year old Rottweiler being kept in deplorable conditions for 2 years, basically from birth. Without hesitation the team drove hours in the middle of the night to rescue this poor creature who was suffering greatly. Since rescuing her they have worked on rehabbing her physically and giving her the TLC she so desperately needed and deserved.

My experience with Freedom Fur went perfect!

The transition went smoothly and it was very comforting and reassuring knowing my ferrets were going to a place where they care so much about the animals. As an added bonus, they stay in close contact with previous owners for visitations/ updates.
